3 popular spots in Tokyo Station where you can take great photos!
If someone asked you, “What’s the first place you want to visit when you come to Japan?” what would you answer?
Most people would probably answer, “Tokyo Station.”
Tokyo Station is located in the heart of Japan, and is a popular photo spot alongside Asakusa.
There are also many stylish photo spots where even solo travelers can take eye-catching photos.
Here, we’ll introduce three particularly famous photo spots out of the many available.
① Near the Station

The glass windows of the large building in front of the station are incredibly striking, making this a highly recommended spot.
By making good use of the glass, you can take photos that exude a sense of cleanliness and clarity.
Everything in the vicinity is reflected in the glass, and even a slight change in angle can completely transform your photo.
There is also greenery nearby, and the blurred reflection of that greenery on the glass creates a lovely photo.
Making use of the stairs is also an effective way to take photos.
Try resting your hands on the banister or leaning on it.
The staircase is large, so even just taking a photo of yourself descending the stairs makes a great photo.
② Wadakuramon Gate

This spot is located on the east side of the Imperial Palace Outer Gardens, beyond the Wadakura Bridge that spans the inner moat.
It’s a very popular spot, and during the illumination season, you’ll often see couples taking wedding photos here.
You can take a variety of photos here, from long shots to close-ups, with just a few different angles.
There is a large pond in the background, and the open-air ceiling creates a sense of depth.
By the way, this photo was taken with the 85mm f/1.2 lens, and the foreground and background of the woman are quite blurred.
The blurring of the foreground and background really emphasizes the woman, so this lens is highly recommended for portraits.
However, since the blur is quite strong, if you want to capture the surrounding scenery clearly, you’ll need to use a wide-angle lens or increase the f-stop.
③ Building Wall

This is the wall of a large building located very close to Wadakura Gate.
Sorry, I forgot the name, so I’ll update it if I find it.
This place is also popular, and it seems to be often used for photo shoots for Japanese women’s magazines.
Outdoor shoots can be difficult because the surrounding colors inevitably reflect off the face, making the complexion appear green, red, or yellow. However, this location is white and gray, so the complexion appears beautifully.

There are plenty of other great photo spots around Tokyo Station.
