Why Are There So Few Trash Bins in Asakusa? What I Noticed at Sensoji Temple
Many international visitors say the same thing when visiting Asakusa:
“I bought food on Nakamise Street, but I couldn’t find a trash bin anywhere.”
In this article, I’ll explain where you can find trash bins around Sensoji Temple
and what you can do if you can’t find one.
Where to Find Trash Bins Near Sensoji Temple

When I recently visited Sensoji Temple, I was able to find two trash bin locations.
There were four cardboard trash bins placed together:
• One bin for cans and bottles
• Three bins for burnable trash
These bins were located on the street in front of Yakushido Hall.
During the year-end season, food stalls are set up along this street,
so the trash bins may have been placed there temporarily for visitors.
After the New Year season ends and the food stalls are removed,
I will check again and update this article if the trash bins are no longer available.
Bringing a Small Trash Bag Is the Best Solution

There are no permanent trash bins along Nakamise Street.
Some shops have their own trash bins,
but these are only for items purchased at that specific shop.
Throwing away trash from other shops is considered bad manners in Japan.
That said, walking around Asakusa while holding trash is inconvenient.
To avoid this problem,
I recommend carrying a small plastic bag with you.
By following local manners,
you can enjoy your visit to Sensoji Temple comfortably and respectfully.
